Higher Education as Catalyst for Social Innovation
Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are committed to educate students to be active citizens contributing to social innovation. Therefore, education should not only focus on transfer of knowledge and skills as catalyst for economic innovation. It should also focus on developing ideas and strengthening those competences which enable students to become changemakers delivering outputs beneficial for society.
Given the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the climate crisis, it is clear that the usual ways HEI create societal impact are no longer sufficient. Therefore, HEI should use new ways of creating impact and share the responsibility of addressing societal problems. This can only be done by developing new ways of collaboration with society and by leading through example.
In order to fulfill this role, HEI should establish and/or reinforce partnerships with civic-minded communities to allow students, researchers and staff to respond more easily and efficiently to societal problems. This way, they will succeed in responding to real- life problems and challenges, increase the societal value of their generated outputs and strengthen their self-esteem in order to become the changemakers of the future.
We are looking forward to inviting lecturers and support staff who are interested in giving lectures or workshops. A call will be launched soon.
Kind regards,
The EhB International Office Team
